Nieuwstraat 63 (nu nr. 295)
School nr. 1. Gebouwd in 1863 als aandenken aan admiraal Jan Hendrik van Kinsbergen (1735-1819). Het was een openbare school voor Uitgebreid Lager Onderwijs en werd ook wel "Instituut van Kinsbergen" genoemd. Het ontwerp kwam van de gemeente-architect C.W.A. de Groot. De aannemer was R. Willemsen uit de Mariastraat die de laagste inschrijver was met fl. 9849,- Het eerste schoolhoofd was de in Middelburg geboren Balthazar Jan van Pritzelwitz van der Horst (1839-1919). Het gebouw heeft ook lang dienst gedaan als muziekschool en momenteel is het een café-restaurant. (Coll. B. Meester)
